The Story So Far

Before Pastures Lodge took shape, the site on Pastures Road was little more than open land, sitting quietly by the River Don. Then in 1999, Geoff and Valerie Salmons, alongside Michael and Robin Chappell, saw its potential and opened the Pastures Lodge pub and restaurant, complete with a lively soft play area and a hearty carvery. By 2001, the adjoining hotel followed, offering 60 en-suite rooms for visitors who fancied staying the night. A 2005 extension added even more dining space with Reeds and a sun-catching deck. Today, it stands as a cheerful mix of pub, carvery and rooms, a proper local institution, still brimming with that original community spirit.

Mexborough & South Yorkshire

Mexborough is a rather charming pocket of South Yorkshire, steeped in history and character. Once famed for its pottery and coal, today it offers a quieter pace, with the River Don winding gracefully nearby. Surrounding towns like Doncaster and Rotherham bring a touch of bustle, while the rolling Dearne Valley offers gentle walks and leafy escapes. It’s all terribly grounding and pleasantly unspoilt.
